Don't let the school daze blues get you down!

School Daze (skül dāz) transitive verb - To stun or stupefy, as with the heavy blow or shock of the first day of school.

One of the most difficult things you will ever have to do is to step back from the curb as your wonderful bundle of joy waves to you from the inside of that big yellow school bus for the first time. Of course, your child has no idea of your misgivings and fear, because you are returning that ear to ear grin.

The whole time you are thinking to yourself ... is he really ready? ... will the other children be nice to her? ... how can I let him go? ... will she be scared? And what's your child thinking? I'M FINALLY A BIG BOY!!! I CAN'T WAIT!!! THIS IS GOING TO BE SOOOO MUCH FUN!!

School daze, school bus, going to school

Don't worry Mom. It's okay Dad. You've done a good job preparing them. Just make sure you don't let them see you cry. Don't let them know how worried you really are!

What you need to be thinking about now is how you are going to finance your bright young scholar's education! Your school daze will start when you start getting hit with expenses even before the first day of school.

Before you send your little one off to school, you will have to incur lots of expenses. Here is a list of what to expect and some possible ways to deal with those expenses.

  • Back To School Ideas Need back to school ideas that fill the backpacks and not empty the wallet. I am going to give you my best methods for getting discount school supplies!
  • New clothes - many schools will require a uniform or very specific dress code. But even if this is not the case where you live, you will want to put your child in some new duds to helpboost his/her confidence (or maybe its your confidence that needs boosting)
  • If you can get a copy of your teacher's supply list ahead of time, it would be great to have as many of the items on the list before school starts. We have found that most stores run theirsales before school and sell out of the most needed items early. So save your self the frustration and money by shopping early.
Then the first day of school will bring a whole new stack of paperwork! Of course, you will have lists of things you need to do and buy to make your child's educational experience better. Don't get overwhelmed! Just work through it one page at a time. The quicker you can get this paperwork back to the school, the better they will be able to fulfill your child's needs.

Note to the wise : keep copies of everything! Schools are run by humans who are dealing with their own form of school daze and they are receiving this same paperwork for hundreds of students at the same time. Chances are somethingwill get misplace or lost.

Some of the paperwork that you will receive will be asking you to join different groups and organizations. I am going to try to give you some information about them. It will be up to youto decide which ones you want to be involved with. Remember : you don't have to do anything just because everyone else is doing it. You have to make your decisions based on what is best for your family. NO ONE has to live with your decisions except you!

  • The Parent Teacher Association - Find out how joining the Parent Teacher Association can save you big bucks. Being the largest volunteer child advocacy association in our nation gives it the power to negotiate some great discounts for its members.

I hope these tips help you and your child transition into this wonderful new stage of life without your school daze becoming too overwhelming.
